The Panipat police have arrested the principal of a private school and a cab driver for allegedly assaulting a Class II student by hanging him upside down in the school.
The Education Department has shut down the school and issued a notice after the shocking case surfaced.
The incident took place at Srijan Public School at Virat Nagar on August 13, but child’s parents came to know about it on Saturday when a video of the assault went viral on social media. In the clip, the seven-year-old can be seen with his legs tied and hanging from a window in his school uniform.
The child’s parents said they were horrified when they saw the video. They immediately approached the school principal and lodged a complaint with Model Town police.
The driver, identified as Ajay, allegedly tied the boy’s legs, hung him upside down, slapped him, recorded the act, and later uploaded it online. The principal, Reena, was also caught on camera slapping two other children in front of their classmates.
The victim had told his mother that “Ajay uncle” had hung him from the window, slapped him, recorded the video and uploaded it on social media.
When questioned, Reena claimed she was unaware of the video until the parents confronted her. She admitted she had received complaints about Ajay’s behaviour with children and had terminated him on August 30.
The boy’s mother said when she visited Ajay’s house with the principal, he sent some boys to intimidate them. Police later inspected the school premises in the presence of the victim, his parents, and the principal.
Reena defended her own act of slapping, saying the two boys had misbehaved with a girl and their parents were aware of the matter.
SP Bhupender Singh said an FIR has been registered against Ajay under various Sections of the BNS. He added that the matter is being investigated thoroughly.
