In a recent announcement, Netflix has announced its decision to discontinue the ‘Downloads’ feature for Windows users, affecting both Windows 11 and Windows 10 platforms.

 

The move comes as part of a strategic shift towards a progressive web app (PWA) model, potentially replacing the existing Windows application.

 

The forthcoming Windows app promises enhanced video streaming quality and access to live events.

 

However, the trade-off appears to be the removal of support for offline viewing, a feature cherished by many Netflix subscribers.

 

Currently, users of the Netflix app for Windows 10 and Windows 11 can download their preferred content in up to 1080p resolution (FullHD).

 

However, a recent update on the Netflix website indicates that “downloads will no longer be supported, but you can continue to watch TV shows and movies offline on a supported mobile device.”

 

Presently, the Netflix Windows app lacks support for the ad-supported plan, displaying a message stating, “Your plan does not support streaming on this device.”

 

The ad-supported tier is unavailable in regions like India, necessitating a return to mobile devices for offline viewing.
