Byju’s-owned Aakash Educational Services Limited (AESL) announces the appointment of Deepak Mehrotra as its CEO.

Edtech giant Byju’s-owned Aakash Educational Services Limited (AESL) announces the appointment of Deepak Mehrotra as its Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

This appointment marks a pivotal moment for AESL and the broader landscape of educational technology.

Mehrotra brings with him a wealth of experience, having served as the Managing Director at Ashirvad Pipes and held key positions at renowned companies such as Pearson India, Bharti Airtel, Coca-Cola, and Asian Paints.

The announcement comes amid earlier speculations regarding the return of Aakash Chaudhry, the promoter of the coaching firm. However, AESL has pivoted its plans, revealing Mehrotra's appointment on Monday.

Byju’s acquisition of Aakash for $950 million in April 2021 and subsequent investments by Ranjan Pai, Chairman of Manipal Education and Medical Group, totaling Rs 1,400 crore in November last year, have set the stage for AESL's strategic growth trajectory. With Pai holding approximately 40% stake in Aakash, the collaboration underscores a shared vision for educational excellence.

Byju's, in a statement, highlighted the significance of leveraging technology and contemporary teaching methodologies to enrich the learning experience for students nationwide.

Byju Raveendran, founder & Chairman of Byju’s, expressed enthusiasm, stating, “As we enter the next phase of growth, it’s our pleasure to welcome Deepak to lead AESL. In his role as CEO, he will be responsible to deliver on our aggressive growth plan and to build on the significant momentum the company is currently experiencing.”
