Young achievers from Himachal Pradesh have brought pride to their regions by joining the country’s defence forces. While a woman from Nurpur has made history by entering the Indian Air Force, two youths from Hamirpur have been commissioned as officers in the Indian Army, continuing strong family legacies of service.

Aishita Sharma (23), daughter of Rajiv Sharma and a resident of Danni village in the Nurpur Assembly constituency, has become the first woman from the region to be selected as a Flying Officer (Technical) in the Indian Air Force. Aishita secured 12th rank on the all-India merit list.

After passing her Class XII exams from Central School, Chandigarh, her journey to the IAF began. She later completed a B.Tech in Computer Science from Panjab University, Chandigarh, and went on to clear the Air Force Common Admission Test.

Aishita comes from a family with a strong connection to the IAF. Her father is serving as a Warrant Officer in Chandigarh, and she was inspired to join the force by her family, including her late grandfather, Kuldeep Chand Sharma.

She will begin her training at the Air Force Academy in Secunderabad, Telangana, from January next year. She will be commissioned as an officer in the IAF after completing the course. Local residents, public representatives and social organisations have congratulated Aishita and her family, saying her success will inspire girls in the region.

Two youths from Hamirpur were commissioned as officers in the Indian Army after the passing-out parade at the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun this Saturday.

Lt Kartikeya Agnihotri and Lt Yuvraj Singh Nughaal are continuing their family’s legacy. Lt Yuvraj is a fourth-generation Army officer.

Lt Yuvraj’s father, Col RS Nughaal, served in 7 Mechanised Infantry, while his grandfather, Lt Col KR Nughaal, served in 16 Grenadiers. His great-grandfather had served in 7 Jat before Independence. Yuvraj’s grandmother, Shakuntla Nughaal, said his commissioning marked the passing of responsibility from one generation to the next.

At the ceremony, Lt Kartikeya’s father, Brig Rajan Agnihotri, and mother, Archana Agnihotri, pinned the badges on his shoulders.

Lt Kartikeya is the grandson of retired professor JP Agnihotri and retired principal Lakshmi Agnihotri. Both young officers are residents of Hiranagar Colony and are neighbours.

Brig Rajan Agnihotri said that from a young age, his son dreamed of wearing the uniform after seeing him in service. Archana Agnihotri said she felt proud and happy to see her son become an Army officer.
