Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Monday that the state has transformed into one of India’s key growth engines and can no longer be classified as a ‘Bimaru’ state. The comments were made during a virtual dialogue with all Mayors on the theme ‘Developed UP-2047’.

The Chief Minister asserted that before 2017, investors largely avoided the state due to poor road infrastructure and a perceived lack of security. In stark contrast, he said, Uttar Pradesh now boasts an extensive network of motorways and robust connectivity linking every district, which has successfully attracted significant investment.

During the dialogue, Yogi Adityanath highlighted the financial progress made: “...You have heard from all Mayors how they have raised the earnings of their respective municipal corporations. There are possibilities beyond this...Eight years ago, UP’s GDP stood at ₹12 lakh 75,000 crore, and we plan to increase it to ₹36 lakh crore by the end of this financial year.”

He reinforced the security and connectivity improvements: "No one used to come to invest in UP before 2017 because there were no decent roads, and there was a lack of a secure atmosphere in the state. Now, we have a network of highways, excellent connectivity with other states and ensure two or four-lane motorway connectivity to every district headquarter.”

The Chief Minister also cited major employment achievements, stating that over two crore jobs have been generated under the One District One Product programme, in addition to 8.5 lakh government jobs provided so far.

“UP has the country’s first inland waterway connectivity from Varanasi to Haldia... A state which previously failed to secure investments is now receiving proposals amounting to ₹45 lakh crore,” he continued. "It is the same state, but the will towards development has brought about this transformation. Ayodhya and Kashi, Mathura and Vrindavan have changed...No one can call Uttar Pradesh a ‘Bimaru’ state now; instead, it is one of the growth engines of India.”
