With various regions of the country in the grip of a heatwave most hill stations are gearing up for a tourist influx – and Kashmir is already reporting an increase in the number of visitors.

The notion of "working from the hills" is also getting to be popular across India.

Many hotel chains are also reporting a spike in enquiries from clients from various industries, particularly working professionals looking for reservations in hill stations and remote areas.

Travel agencies in Kashmir say they have received several enquiries from professionals looking for guest homes and cottages in hill stations.

"People from across the country are seeking guest homes, apartments, and homestays in hill stations and unexplored places; however, many of them are concerned about connectivity," says Javeed Ahmad, a tour operator in Srinagar.

Owais Yousuf, who works in the aviation sector, said, "The numbers of domestic and foreign tourists coming to Kashmir have grown exponentially in recent weeks."

According to figures released by Srinagar International Airport on its official X account, "Almost 8,000 travellers arrive each day. Tourists make up a significant part of the passengers." The airport is now operating 92 flights compared to an average of 70 flights during the winter.
