Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay on Monday launched a sharp attack on M. K. Stalin, accusing the DMK president and Chief Minister of corruption, making false promises, and prioritising political gains over public welfare ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Addressing party functionaries, Vijay alleged that Stalin’s “real friends” were bribery and corruption, and dismissed the DMK’s claims of transforming Tamil Nadu into a “superstar state.” He accused the ruling party of misleading the public and questioned its governance record.

The TVK chief described the upcoming Assembly polls as a “surprising election,” claiming that several political parties in the state were united against him and his party. Rejecting the DMK’s development claims, Vijay said Tamil Nadu had achieved true progress under iconic leaders such as K. Kamaraj, C. N. Annadurai, and M. G. Ramachandran.

Criticising the current administration, Vijay termed the DMK regime a “good-for-nothing Ulta model government” and alleged that the state’s governance had deteriorated. He also asserted that he represented the aspirations of the people of Tamil Nadu, positioning himself and his party as a new political alternative.

The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in the first half of this year, with the primary contest expected between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) and the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The SPA includes parties such as the Congress and Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), while alliance talks are ongoing with Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) and Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK).

On the other hand, the NDA bloc is led by the AIADMK, with the BJP, Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), and other allies playing key roles.
Vijay, who recently stepped away from his acting career, is making his political debut with TVK and is positioning his party as a major contender in the upcoming elections. His remarks signal an intensifying political battle in Tamil Nadu as parties gear up for a high-stakes electoral contest.
