Minimum temperatures have shown fluctuations after recent snowfall in the upper reaches of north and central Kashmir districts, officials said on Monday.
According to the MeT Department, “There is a possibility of light snowfall at scattered places in the Kashmir Valley over the next 48 hours.”
On Saturday and Sunday, several areas of north and central Kashmir witnessed snowfall, including Tulail, Baltal, and Zojila, where temperatures plummeted sharply on Sunday night.
Before the fresh snowfall, Zojila Pass had recorded the lowest temperature of the season at minus 17 degrees Celsius. Weather conditions in the plains have seen a slight improvement amid cloud cover, officials said.
Night temperatures improved further in Srinagar, as the minimum temperature settled at minus 1.9 degrees, compared to minus 2.0 degrees Celsius recorded the previous day. Similar weather conditions were recorded across most weather stations in the Kashmir Valley.
Jammu city remained the warmest place at 11.4 degrees Celsius, while south Kashmir’s Pulwama was the coldest, with minus 3.5 degrees Celsius.
Daytime temperatures have remained relatively above normal across Jammu and Kashmir, while nighttime temperatures have remained below the freezing point at most weather stations in the Valley.
Temperatures fluctuated across several districts in central and south Kashmir on Sunday night, including Budgam, Ganderbal, as well as Kulgam, Shopian, and Anantnag.
Qazigund, known as the gateway to Kashmir, recorded minus 2.2 degrees, while several other weather stations across north Kashmir, including Baramulla, Bandipora, and Kupwara, also saw slight improvement in the night temperatures.
In the Jammu division, the weather remained relatively moderate, with Jammu city recording 11.4 degrees Celsius, while Banihal, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, and Batote experienced a slight dip in the nighttime temperatures in recent days.
