Former Uttarakhand chief minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat on Wednesday said the Congress party in the state has reached an important phase of political transformation. He expressed confidence that Uttarakhand could emerge as a leading state in challenging the BJP politically. He also said similar political shifts appear to be taking place in other states, including Kerala and Assam.

Rawat said, “Uttarakhand will lead the change. Change is also visible in Kerala, but the opportunity to lead the change against the BJP may come to us or possibly to Assam. The Uttarakhand Congress is currently at a stage where it can bring political change.”

Meanwhile, assembly elections in West Bengal will be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29. Kerala and Assam will vote in a single phase on April 9, while Tamil Nadu will go to polls on April 23. Voting in Puducherry will also take place on April 9. The Chief Election Commissioner announced that counting of votes in all four states and Puducherry will be carried out on May 4.

On Tuesday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami chaired a high-level meeting at his official residence to review preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed visit to the state on April 14. During the visit, the Prime Minister is expected to inaugurate the Delhi–Dehradun Expressway.
