In a move that seems to be a deliberate attempt to accommodate the large number of pilgrims expected for the upcoming festivities, the Yogi Adityanath regime has declared a second holiday on March 27. This, in essence, adds a second day off for the upcoming Ram Navami festivities, with March 26 already having been declared a day off. Government officials cited the fact that the decision was made in order to accommodate the influx of visitors expected for the festivities at the major pilgrimage sites in Uttar Pradesh, ensuring that the festivities are conducted without the usual logistical constraints.
This scheduling change has also led to a corresponding change in the judiciary. While the Ram Navami holiday for the state's courts was originally slated for March 26, the High Court has now rescheduled its closure to March 27. This means that while administrative offices may be closed on the Thursday, court proceedings will actually continue as normal on March 26 before shutting their doors the following day.
Security has been significantly bolstered across the state’s religious hubs, with Ayodhya, Varanasi, and Mathura already seeing a massive influx of visitors. Police and local administrative bodies have been issued guidelines to maintain order during the grand processions and special prayers that define the festival. In Ayodhya particularly, the atmosphere is described as electric, with local authorities focusing on everything from enhanced sanitation and floral decorations to dedicated fast-track queues for elderly devotees.
By stretching the holiday period, the government appears to be prioritising both religious sentiment and public safety. With back-to-back holidays now confirmed for March 26and 27, families participating in the traditional ceremonies will have more breathing room to navigate the crowded temple complexes. As the state gears up for one of its most significant annual events, the emphasis remains firmly on providing a seamless experience for the millions currently descending upon Uttar Pradesh’s sacred sites.
