Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Dr Jitendra Singh has announced that Udhampur Airport will become operational very soon while Dhar Road constructed 60 years back will be widened by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). Dr Singh is the elected MP from Udhampur constituency.

Speaking to media persons ,Dr Jitendra Singh said after Narendra Modi Government came to power in 2014, the remote and hilly areas have become major beneficiaries of development works. He said the newly inaugurated infrastructure development projects by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh from Shyok in Leh in the Union Territory of Ladakh today, will not only boost tourism and revenue but will also help the locals and daily commuters.

“With trains reaching Srinagar from Udhampur and Katra, now Udhampur airport will also become operational. Dhar road will be widened by the BRO,’’ the Union Minister, who represents Udhampur-Doda-Kathua Parliamentary constituency, said. Dr Jitendra Singh said he had asked the BRO for widening of Dhar road due to increase load of traffic as it was constructed 60 years back when traffic was very low and added that the BRO has accepted the proposal. The widening work of Dhar road will start shortly, he announced.

He said it was the BRO which first prepared the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of Chattergala tunnel on Lakhanpur-Bhaderwah-Doda National Highway. The work has now been allotted to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). At Chashoti in Kishtwar district where cloudburst occurred on August 14 this year resulting into deaths of pilgrims and others, the BRO overnight shifted its equipments to clear the site and help in rescue operations, he added.

Dr Jitendra Singh said Udhampur-Doda-Kathua Parliamentary constituency has projects worth Rs 172.8 crore which were inaugurated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh from Ladakh today. In fact, he added, all remote and hilly areas have been given special importance by Narendra Modi Government in terms of development and in view of this his constituency has also been the major beneficiary.

“Earlier also, the BRO has executed many important works in Udhampur-Doda-Kathua Lok Sabha constituency. During COVID, the BRO constructed Devika bridge to rid the people of traffic jam. They also constructed Bheerma bridge overnight to help the locals and others,’’ the Union Minister said.
