Uddhav bowing to 'trivial people' for CM post: Jadhav

Union minister Prataprao Jadhav criticises Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray for abandoning Sena's ideals.

Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav has accused Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray of abandoning the party's ideology and bowing to "trivial people" in pursuit of the chief minister's post ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra state assembly elections.

Jadhav, who is affiliated with the Shiv Sena faction led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, made these remarks during a felicitation programme in Jalna on Sunday. He claimed that Thackeray, who recently visited Delhi to meet top Congress leaders, is willing to compromise the party's principles for political gain.

"Uddhav Thackeray is now seeking approval from trivial people for the chief ministerial post," said Jadhav, who serves as the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare. He further alleged that Thackeray has become "completely secular" and lacks the qualities of his father, Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray.

Jadhav criticised Thackeray for not condemning the alleged attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, accusing him of forsaking Shiv Sena's core ideology. He also dismissed Uddhav Thackeray's leadership, claiming, "He has not even one per cent of Balasaheb's qualities."

The remarks come as speculation grows over Thackeray's ambitions to be the chief ministerial candidate for the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition, which includes the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar). The MVA is set to challenge the ruling 'Mahayuti' coalition, comprising the BJP, Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and NCP, in the state elections scheduled for October.

The Shiv Sena split in June 2022 after a rebellion led by Shinde, which resulted in the collapse of the MVA government that Uddhav Thackeray headed.
