Three people, including a woman and a child, were killed after being hit by a Vande Bharat train near Nagar Nabi railway station in Jharkhand’s Pakur district on Tuesday evening, officials said.
According to the Railway Protection Force (RPF), the incident occurred around 7:10 pm when the train was passing on the down line. A woman, a man, and a small child were struck by the train and died on the spot.
Personnel from the RPF and the Government Railway Police (GRP) reached the scene after receiving information and took custody of the bodies. The victims have not yet been identified.
RPF in-charge Sanjay Kumar Singh said efforts are being made to establish the identities of the deceased.
“Nearby villagers and Panchayat representatives are being contacted for assistance. Further investigation into the incident is underway,” he said.
A large number of villagers gathered at the spot following the incident, but railway police personnel restricted access to the area. Officials said postmortem examinations will be conducted and the bodies will be handed over to the families once identification is confirmed.
Residents claimed that the deceased were a husband, wife, and their child who were crossing the railway tracks at the time of the accident. Authorities are continuing their investigation, and more details are awaited.
