Terror crackdown: 3 OGWs held in Valley shifted to Jammu jail

The detained individuals have been identified as Owais Ahmad Lone of Sedow, Mashooq Ahmad Shah of Shahlatoo, and Subzar Ahmad Gani of Check Choland, all residents of Shopian.

In pursuance of the Government policy of zero tolerance against terrorism, Shopian Police in Kashmir valley in a major preventive action aimed at safeguarding peace and security, have detained three Over Ground Workers (OGWs) under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) for their repeated involvement in activities detrimental to the security of the Union Territory.

 

 

Following due legal process, the detenues have been shifted to Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu, underscoring the police’s zero-tolerance approach towards elements threatening public order and stability. The crackdown on terror continues across UT as approach of the Government is to dismantle the terror eco-system.In a statement, Police has attributed the step to its sustained efforts to maintain peace and security,

 

The detained individuals have been identified as Owais Ahmad Lone of Sedow, Mashooq Ahmad Shah of Shahlatoo, and Subzar Ahmad Gani of Check Choland, all residents of Shopian.Considering their continued involvement in such activities, detention orders were obtained from the District Magistrate, Shopian, after completion of all legal formalities. Subsequently, the detenues were taken into custody and lodged at Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu, police said.

 

Shopian Police reiterates its commitment to safeguarding peace and security and will continue to take firm action against elements inimical to the security of the State strictly in accordance with law, officials said.The detenues were found repeatedly involved in activities prejudicial to the security of the State. Despite preventive actions and proceedings initiated against them under Sections 170/126 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), they continued to indulge in unlawful activities, thereby posing a serious threat to peace and security in the district, the statement read.

 

Considering their continued involvement in such activities, detention orders were obtained from the District Magistrate, Shopian, after completion of all legal formalities. Subsequently, the detenues were taken into custody and lodged at Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu, it further states.Shopian Police reiterates its commitment to safeguarding peace and security and will continue to take firm action against elements inimical to the security of the State strictly in accordance with law, reads the statement.Jammu and Kashmir Police have detained a number of  Over Ground Workers (OGWs) under the provisions of the Public Safety Act (PSA) this year.
