The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Assam Police on Friday has formally submitted the charge sheet in the mysterious death case of renowned singer Zubeen Garg, marking a major step forward in the months-long probe. The document was placed before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in Guwahati.
Garg, Assam’s iconic singer, passed away in Singapore on September 19. The chargesheet — running over 3,500 pages — reflects the scale and complexity of the investigation, which included statements from more than 300 persons, extensive forensic analysis, and details gathered during the course of interrogation of the arrested accused.
Investigating officer Rosy Kalita submitted the chargesheet on behalf of the SIT, which was headed by SDGP Munna Prasad Gupta, with officers Moromi Medhi and Nab Dekai as part of the core team. Officials said the document captures months of meticulous inquiry aimed at uncovering the circumstances surrounding the singer’s untimely death.
Garg’s fans assembled outside the court, demanding justice and urging to ensure accountability. Public sentiment has remained high since the incident.
So far, seven persons have been arrested in connection with the case. Those in judicial custody include organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, manager Siddharth Sharma, singer Amritprabha Mahanta, musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, Garg’s cousin and DSP Sandipan Garg, and PSOs Paresh Baishya and Nandeshwar Bora.
The case will now move into the next phase of judicial scrutiny as the court examines the extensive findings submitted by the SIT.
