Security forces on Friday initiated a cordon-and-search operation in Samba district following suspicious movement in the area, officials said. The operation was launched after multiple sightings of suspected individuals carrying weapons in the Katli area, they said.
According to sources, a joint team of the Special Operations Group (SOG), police and the CRPF launched a search and combing operation in the forest area of Sidhra on the outskirts of the city.
The Indian Army and police also carried out a joint checking campaign in the Meera Sahib border area of the Jammu division, officials said.
“The operation continued throughout the night, with security personnel checking every vehicle passing through the area. The campaign comes amid ongoing anti-terror operations in the Jammu division, with overall security stepped up,” they said.
The security operation was initiated as part of preparations to ensure peaceful Republic Day functions.
Meanwhile, an encounter during which one security personnel was injured later turned into a search operation that continued for two consecutive days.
However, no fresh contact has so far been established between security forces and terrorists believed to be hiding in the upper reaches of the district.
Moreover, security forces have established checkpoints and nakas at various places across Jammu and the Kashmir Valley to prevent any untoward incident.
