Security forces have launched a search operation after two Pakistani drones were reportedly sighted hovering over forward villages along the international border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district, officials said on Saturday.
The drones were seen over Challiyari village in the Ghagwal area and Chamliyal village in Ramgarh late Friday night, they added.
The Border Security Force (BSF) and the police have cordoned off both areas launched a search operation early Saturday to ensure that no weapons or narcotics are airdropped across the border.
The search operations were ongoing at the time of filing this report, officials said. Earlier on Tuesday, an encounter broke out between terrorists and the Jammu and Kashmir police team in Rajouri district.
“A gunfight erupted between terrorists and the SOG (Special Operations Group) team in the Beeranthub area, Police Station Kandi, Rajouri. Joint parties of the Police, Army, and CRPF have rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area,” Inspector General of Police, Jammu, Bhim Sen Tuti, said.
Besides, drone sightings along both the Line of Control (LoC) and the international border (IB) have increased over the past few months, especially around the Jammu division.
Security forces have foiled several infiltration bids along the LoC and IB, highlighting the intensified vigil along the sensitive zones.
