Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini dismissed the 'Haryana Maange Hisab' campaign as a “jhooth ki yatra” (journey of lies).

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday defended his government’s measures to compensate farmers affected by this year’s subnormal rainfall, countering criticism from the Congress party. Saini claimed the opposition had previously offered only “meagre amounts” to farmers while in power.

Addressing a press conference ahead of the expected announcement of assembly elections, Saini criticised Congress’s 'Haryana Maange Hisab' campaign, accusing the party of spreading false information.

Responding to questions about the potential announcement of election dates, Saini said, “Who said so? Polls will be held as per schedule.” He highlighted a recent cabinet decision to compensate farmers impacted by inadequate rainfall, with a bonus of Rs 2,000 per acre. The first instalment of Rs 525 crore was released on Friday, Saini noted.

“All farmers who have registered on the designated portal will receive compensation for their losses,” he assured.

Saini emphasised the BJP-led government’s commitment to farmers’ welfare over the past decade. He criticised Congress for what he described as the party's insincere concern for farmers.

“Congress sheds crocodile tears in the name of farmers. They should explain how much crop they procured between 2005 and 2014,” Saini said. “During their rule, Congress issued cheques as low as Rs 2 or Rs 5 for crop damage. In contrast, the BJP government has provided Rs 13,276 crore in compensation over the past ten years.”

He also contrasted the BJP’s policies with those of the previous Congress government, saying, “Farmers were forced to dump their produce on roads due to inadequate pricing under Congress rule. Now, payments are made to farmers' bank accounts within 72 hours.”

Saini dismissed the 'Haryana Maange Hisab' campaign as a “jhooth ki yatra” (journey of lies), adding, “Those who are questioning us should take a look in the mirror. We are making decisions that benefit and empower farmers.”

Saini further accused Congress of pretending to be honest, while alleging that the party had “snatched” farmers’ land under the guise of Change of Land Use (CLU) and handed it over to builders.

The Congress party launched the 'Haryana Maange Hisab' campaign on July 15, targeting the BJP on issues including farmers’ rights, unemployment, and law and order.
