87 roads continue to remain shut in HP due to heavy rains

Road closures have been reported in Kullu (30), Mandi (25), Lahaul and Spiti (14), Shimla (9), Kangra (7), and Kinnaur (2).

A total of 87 roads across Himachal Pradesh have been closed due to flash floods and landslides triggered by relentless heavy rains, the state emergency operation centre stated on Monday. The meteorological centre has issued a 'yellow' alert for isolated heavy rain and thunderstorms until Thursday.

 

Road closures have been reported in Kullu (30), Mandi (25), Lahaul and Spiti (14), Shimla (9), Kangra (7), and Kinnaur (2).

 

The Sansari-Killar-Thirot-Tandi road in Lahaul and Spiti was blocked due to a flash flood, while residents in Tadang village were evacuated due to the Chandrabhaga river overflowing. 

 

Thirteen fatalities were reported in flash floods on July 31, with 40 individuals still missing. The affected districts include Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla. 

 

Hamirpur received the highest rainfall of 67 mm, followed by Aghar, Jogindernagar, Nadaun, Dehra Gopipur, Palampur, Dhaula Kuan, and Nahan.

 

The Shimla Meteorological Centre has warned of landslides, flash floods, and damage to structures and crops due to strong winds and waterlogging. Since June 27, 79 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents, with the state suffering losses of ₹663 crore.

 

In a related development, the meteorological centre has issued a 'yellow' alert for heavy showers, thunderstorms, and lightning at isolated places until August 8.
