A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan sustained a serious leg injury following an improvised explosive device (IED) blast near the India-Pakistan international border in Punjab's Gurdaspur district.
The incident occurred during the intervening night of April 8 and 9, when a BSF patrol team was conducting an area domination exercise ahead of the border security fence. According to a statement issued by the force, the patrol team detected multiple IEDs with concealed wires planted well within Indian territory—an unusual and alarming development along this sensitive stretch of India's western frontier.
The patrol was aimed at ensuring the safety of troops, defense personnel, and local farmers who frequently use the route during the day. While cordoning off and sanitizing the area, one of the concealed detonating devices was accidentally triggered, causing a serious injury to one of the personnel.
After sunrise, bomb disposal teams successfully defused the remaining IEDs. The incident underscores a rare and concerning tactic being employed near the border, prompting heightened vigilance by security forces in the region.
