Three students were injured during clashes over the NEET-UG paper leak in Siwan as police probed firing claims and internet curbs were imposed.

Clashes erupted between protesting students against the 2026 NEET UG paper leak and police personnel during a state-wide shutdown, leaving as many as three students injured in alleged police firing in Siwan. Officials said a probe has been initiated to identify whether the students were injured by bullets fired by police officials during the protest.

The state-wide shutdown (bandh) was called by the All India Students Association (AISA) and other left-wing student organisations over the alleged NEET leak and Wednesday’s police action in Patna.

Hours after the violent clashes, state authorities imposed a partial ban on internet services, along with social media platforms, until Sunday at 5.30 pm.

Officials said the restrictions were imposed since a few posts could “disturb public order and peace” in the violence-affected area.

“It is felt that misuse of social networking sites and instant messaging services is likely to be detrimental to the peace and tranquillity in Siwan district,” said the order issued by Home Secretary Kundan Kumar.

Meanwhile, Siwan SP Puran Kumar Jha confirmed the injuries, saying, “Policemen fired in self-defence after some anti-social elements merged with protesting students and attacked police personnel at JP Chowk.”

He added, “We have no idea how those people got injured and whether they were hit by bullets from police firing or from the protesters as firing occurred from both sides.”
