Fresh snowfall was recorded in several parts of the Pir Panjal range, especially high-altitude Peer Ki Gali area as well as the Mughal Road, saw a fresh spell of light snowfall on Saturday morning. The snowfall has led to a drop in temperatures and marked an early winter-like change in the upper regions of the Valley.
Officials said the snowfall began early in the morning, which left a thin layer of snow on the road near Peer Ki Gali, which is located at an altitude of about 11,000 feet.
Due to sudden change in weather, authorities issued advisories for residents and tourists using the Mughal Road, especially during evening hours when visibility drops sharply on the high mountain stretches.
While traffic continued on the route as planned, drivers reported slow movement because the fresh snowfall made the road slippery, especially along the higher curves.
Residents in Shopian and Poonch stated that the upper areas had been under cloud cover since morning, followed by occasional light snowfall.
The Met Department in Srinagar said the higher altitudes of the Valley may continue to receive light precipitation over the next 24 hours, while the rest of the UT is likely to witness dry weather but significantly colder.
Officials added that any snow buildup on the road will be closely monitored to keep the Mughal Road safe for travel during regular hours.
Travellers have been advised to keep updated with travel advisories from the authorities before starting their journey to or from Srinagar.
