Election Commission of India.

The Election Commission confirmed on Saturday that no re-polls have been recommended for any of the 75,064 polling stations used during the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections on April 23. With a total of 4,023 candidates in the fray, the Commission noted that the entire voting process was recorded on video to ensure transparency. Following a thorough scrutiny of the 17A forms and associated election materials, all documents were officially re-sealed by the relevant authorities.

Currently, the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs) are being held under strict security in designated strong rooms. These facilities were locked and sealed immediately after the polls closed in the presence of general observers, candidates, and their authorised representatives. To maintain the integrity of the stored equipment, the Commission has implemented a rigorous safety protocol involving a double-lock system and a two-tier security detail that remains on-site 24 hours a day. Furthermore, the doors and corridors of these buildings are under constant CCTV surveillance.

In terms of oversight, revenue officials are required to inspect the security arrangements twice daily, while Election Commission officers will conduct their own checks every three days. In a further move to guarantee public trust, candidates’ representatives have been permitted to set up camps within the grounds of the strong room buildings, allowing them to keep a direct watch on the premises until the counting process begins.
