The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday conducted extensive searches at three locations in the Hazaribagh and Ranchi districts of Jharkhand in connection with a locally notorious Aman Sahu gang, in a case relating to extortion and an attack on a coal mine.

According to the agencies, a Toyota Fortuner vehicle and some incriminating material were seized during the searches conducted at the premises of various suspects in case no.: RC-01/2021/NIA/RNC.

Sources said that the Central agency has detained a dozen people from the village and is questioning them. During the raid, along with mobile phones, important documents were also found in the houses of many people.

The NIA has served notices to half a dozen people and called them to its office in Ranchi on June 27.

Raids were started on the hideouts of people associated with the Maoist organization amid heavy security arrangements at 5 am on Wednesday. The raids were conducted at the houses of Suresh Turi, Dwarika Rai, Ajit Rai and Manoj Mahato.

The NIA has recovered important documents related to the Maoist organisation from these residences. Multiple mobile phones have also been recovered.  Interrogations went on for hours, however, there is no information about any arrests so far.

Sources said that NIA officials from different states have been involved in the action. The investigation will continue on Thursday as well.

Naxalite incidents in other states are said to be linked to the Pirtand area.

NIA had earlier charge-sheeted 24 accused in the case involving an attack at Tetariyakhand coal mine in Jharkhand's Latehar district by members of the Sujit Sinha, Aman Sahu and other gangs.

The attack was carried out in December 2020, as part of a criminal conspiracy hatched by these gangs to extort money and disrupt Government work.

The NIA, which took over the investigation in March 2021, had in February this year arrested one Shankar Yadav, a key aide of Aman Sahu, following the seizure of Rs. 1.30 crore from him during searches at five locations in Bihar.
