In his first high-level meeting with senior officers, Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar drove home the point about the need for integrity in the force in no uncertain terms on Saturday. During the high-level meeting attended by officers of the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and higher, the new police commissioner made it abundantly clear that there will be zero tolerance for any form of corruption in the force and that maintaining an upright police force is of utmost importance. According to sources, Kumar gave a clear warning that any member of the force found guilty of corruption or faced with serious allegations of corruption would face stern punishment.

The comments were made during the Commissioner's first major review since taking charge. His appointment was announced on Friday by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), with the 1994-batch AGMUT cadre IPS officer succeeding Satish Golcha. The official MHA order stated that Kumar would take over the role with immediate effect from the date of assumption of charge until further orders, while Golcha, a 1992-batch officer, has been directed to report to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi for his next posting.

This leadership change occurred just a day before the activist Sonam Wangchuk was admitted to Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital on Saturday morning. Wangchuk had staged an indefinite fast for 20 continuous days on the issue of demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan due to irregularities in exams across the nation, such as the NEET paper leak issue. Hospital sources reported that Wangchuk is presently suffering from dehydration, potassium deficiency, and high levels of ketones because of the long duration of the fast. It was advised by the doctors that the high levels of ketones along with dehydration could cause problems with his kidney, among others.
