Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma says NDA seat-sharing finalised; AGP to contest 26 seats, BPF 11, BJP to announce candidates soon.

Ahead of the upcoming Assam assembly elections, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the seat-sharing arrangement within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has largely been finalised.

Under the agreed formula, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) is expected to contest 26 seats, while the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) will field candidates in 11 constituencies. The remaining seats will be contested by the BJP.

Speaking after a key meeting in New Delhi, Sarma said discussions focused on alliance coordination and candidate selection among the NDA partners.

“In the meeting, discussions were held on how the alliance will take place between the BJP, BPF, and AGP, and we also discussed the candidate list for the BJP,” he said.

The Chief Minister further informed that the BJP’s Central Parliamentary Board is scheduled to meet at 7 PM on Wednesday to finalise the list of candidates.

“Either tomorrow night or early the next morning, the BJP will release its list of candidates,” Sarma added.

He also indicated that the party’s candidate list would include several new faces, particularly women and young leaders, reflecting an effort to broaden representation.

“At the same time, a couple of sitting MLAs may not get tickets because of delimitation,” he said, referring to the recent redrawing of constituency boundaries.

The announcement signals that the ruling NDA alliance has entered the final phase of preparations for the Assembly elections, with candidate lists expected to be unveiled shortly.
