Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has said that the state government remains fully committed to strengthening and protecting the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP).
Following an industry review meeting at the Secretariat, the Chief Minister noted that significant progress had been made in the steel plant’s production over the past year, describing the turnaround as a "welcome development" achieved through the support of the Centre and the cooperation of the state government. He emphasised that the positive development is the result of "measures taken, collective decision-making and coordination over the past year."
According to an official press release, efforts by the coalition government secured Central financial assistance amounting to ₹11,440 crore for the plant, with the majority allocated to reviving operations. This backing, combined with continued cooperation from various state departments, has seen production capacity rise dramatically. Utilisation stood at just 25 per cent in September last year, but by this September, it had climbed to 79 per cent.
Describing this achievement as a "highly positive development," Naidu instructed steel plant authorities to push further. He directed that the VSP must reach a production capacity of 92.5 per cent by the end of the third quarter of FY26, stressing that all stakeholders must continue to work in unison to achieve this goal and pull the plant out of losses.
