A tragic case has surfaced from Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh, where a 17-year-old girl died on Friday after allegedly being administered contraceptive pills by a 25-year-old man who is accused of sexually assaulting her.
According to police officials, the accused—identified as Ganesh Chaudhary, a resident of Mominpura—had come into contact with the minor through social media. Investigators state that approximately one and a half months ago, he allegedly took the girl to a hotel near the Tapti bridge, where he sexually assaulted her. The girl subsequently became pregnant.
Police allege that in an attempt to terminate the pregnancy, the accused gave the minor pills, following which her health deteriorated significantly. After she complained of severe abdominal pain, her family rushed her to the district hospital, where her condition worsened, ultimately leading to her death during treatment.
Officials from the Ganpati police station confirmed that the case was initially reported at the hospital outpost before being transferred for further investigation. Acting swiftly, police arrested the accused and produced him before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody in Khandwa jail.
Speaking on the matter, Ganpati police station in-charge Ganesh Mahale said that the accused has been booked under multiple charges, and further action will also be initiated against the hotel owner where the alleged crime took place.
The incident has sparked outrage among locals and social activists. Social worker Om Azad stated that the minor was subjected to severe mental and physical trauma. He added that the victim’s family is in deep shock following her death, and the case has triggered widespread anger in the community.
