Minimum temperatures improve across Kashmir post fresh snowfall

The cold wave conditions have slightly improved across the valley following a fresh snowfall on the higher reaches in central and North Kashmir. Night temperatures have also improved in Srinagar, with the minimum settling at minus 2.0 degrees, compared to minus 2.9 degrees recorded the previous day.

Minimum temperatures have risen slightly in the Kashmir Valley after fresh snowfall in the higher reaches, officials said on Sunday. Several parts, including Tulail, Baltal, and Zojila pass, received a light snowfall, while cold continues across the plains, though with slight improvement.
 
Before the fresh snowfall, Zojila Pass had recorded the lowest temperature of the season with “minus 17 degrees Celsius”. The weather conditions in the plains are also expected to change from today onwards, they said.

Night temperatures have also improved in Srinagar, with the minimum settling at minus 2.0 degrees, compared to minus 2.9 degrees recorded the previous day.
 
Similar weather conditions were recorded at most weather stations in the Kashmir Valley.
 
 
Jammu city remained the warmest place with 11.4 degrees, while South Kashmir’s Pulwama was the coldest place with minus 2.7 degrees.
 
Daytime temperatures have stayed relatively above normal across Jammu and Kashmir, while nighttime temperatures have remained below freezing point across most weather stations in the Valley.
 
In central Kashmir, temperatures in Budgam also improved to minus 1.2 degrees, while Ganderbal recorded minus 1.0 degrees Celsius on Saturday night along South Kashmir’s Kulgam, Shopian, and Anantnag.
 
Qazigund, known as the gateway to Kashmir, recorded minus 0.8 degrees, while several other weather stations across north Kashmir, including Baramulla, Bandipora, and Kupwara, also saw improvement in the night temperatures.
 
In the Jammu division, the weather remained relatively moderate, with Jammu city recording 11.4 degrees Celsius, while Banihal, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, and Batote experienced a slight dip in the nighttime temperatures over the past week.
