The rice-laden goods train reaches Khongsang Railway Station in Manipur's Noney District on Saturday.

Khongsang Railway Station in Manipur's Noney District witnessed a landmark event this morning as it received its first food grains consignment delivered by the NF Railways.

At 11:00 am, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh personally received the train, marking a significant step towards bolstering food security and streamlining distribution in the region.

The inaugural train, consisting of 15 coaches filled with rice, was a momentous occasion for the state.

Accompanying the Chief Minister were Water Resources Minister Awangbow Newmai and HAC Chairman Dinganglung Gangmei, who also attended the reception program.

This development follows an earlier milestone on May 28, when the state received its first cement consignment by goods train at the same station. That train brought approximately 300 tons of cement from Sonapur in Assam, alongside other goods.

The initiative is anticipated to substantially reduce transportation costs, making construction materials more affordable and accessible throughout the region.

The arrival of the food grains and cement consignments at Khongsang Railway Station is pivotal for Manipur's infrastructure development.

It is expected to accelerate construction projects, enhance economic growth, and benefit all citizens by improving access to essential materials.

Noney, also known as Longmai, is a town in Noney district, located 63 kilometres west of Imphal, the state capital. The population is predominantly Rongmei Naga.

Once considered a village, Noney has grown into a town due to an influx of people from various parts of Tamenglong.

It now serves as one of the new district headquarters, comprising the Haochong, Khoupum, Nungba, and Longmai subdivisions.
