A live-in couple was found dead in their rented home in Bengaluru's Jigani area on Monday. Police suspect death by suicide following an altercation.
The couple were identified as Seema Nayak (25) and Rakesh Nayak (23), both originally from Odisha. Rakesh was employed at a security services firm, and Seema worked at a local supermarket.
According to police, the incident likely occurred two days prior, but only came to light on Monday when neighbours noticed a foul smell and no movement from the locked property. Growing suspicious, they broke open a window and discovered the couple deceased inside.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the pair frequently argued, reportedly over Rakesh's drinking habit. A friend who shared the house with them had apparently moved out on Friday after one such argument. Police suspect Rakesh may have taken his own life following a fight, after which Seema could have also died by suicide.
Police have registered a case and are continuing their investigation. Officials confirmed that the bodies have been sent for a post-mortem examination.
