What is often seen as high-voltage drama in films played out in real life in Himachal Pradesh. A late-night confrontation broke out between the Delhi Police and the Himachal Pradesh Police after a team from Delhi arrived to arrest Congress workers linked to the protest during the AI Summit. The situation escalated on the highway, and the two police forces remained locked in a standoff for several hours. At one point, Himachal Police even detained members of the Delhi Police team.
Rahul Vikram in spotlight
One of the most discussed names in the episode is Delhi Police officer Rahul Vikram. He is currently posted as ACP in the Special Cell of Delhi Police. A 2018-batch DANIPS officer, Rahul Vikram hails from Unnao in Uttar Pradesh. He has served in the Special Cell for several years and is presently part of the Counter Terrorism Unit.
Under his leadership, the Special Cell has busted several major terror modules. These include an Al Qaeda-linked module in Jharkhand. He has also played a key role in operations against organised crime.
Role in bringing gangsters to India
Rahul Vikram’s team has been involved in bringing several gangsters living overseas back to India. In the Sidhu Moosewala murder case, his team played an important role in tracking down key accused. The team was instrumental in bringing Kala Rana, a close associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, back from Thailand.
His unit has also been involved in the arrest of several wanted gangsters in Punjab. He was part of the operation to arrest gangster Sandeep alias Kala Jatheri, who carried a reward of ₹7 lakh, along with his associate Anuradha.
Accused being taken to Delhi
In the latest development in the case related to the arrest of Congress workers, Delhi Police is now bringing the three accused to Delhi. They underwent medical examination in Ambala earlier in the day. Officials said they are likely to be produced before a Delhi court by 3 pm.
Why did the clash erupt?
The confrontation began after Delhi Police arrested three accused from Rohru in Shimla district. While they were being taken out of the state, the Himachal Pradesh Police stopped the Delhi team in Solan district. Allegations were raised that the arrests were illegal.
Following the objections, the Delhi Police team returned to Shimla. The three accused were produced before a judge at around 1:30 am. At about 2 am, the court granted transit remand to Delhi Police. After completing the legal process, the Delhi team left for Delhi with the accused.
Allegations of misleading information
Sources said a major development has emerged regarding the late-night events. It is alleged that the Himachal Police misled the Delhi Police team about the timing of the court appearance. According to sources, the Delhi team was repeatedly told that the accused would soon be presented before the judge.
However, Delhi Police were reportedly not allowed to enter the court premises. When they later went inside to verify, they allegedly found that the judge was not present at that time. The judge arrived after some delay, and sources claimed that Himachal Police were reprimanded during the proceedings. The incident has sparked debate over coordination between state police forces and the handling of inter-state arrest procedures.
