The Karnataka government has asked for early approval of irrigation projects worth Rs 3,052 crore under key central schemes. The Centre has responded positively, state minister NS Boseraju said on Wednesday.
The proposals have been submitted under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY) and the Repair, Renovation and Restoration (RRR) schemes. At present, these projects are pending at different stages with the Water Resources Ministry, he said in a statement after meetings in New Delhi.
"The state government has already committed its 40 per cent share of funding in the budget, while the remaining 60 per cent is expected from the Centre. We have requested early approvals to fast-track implementation, and the response from the union minister has been encouraging," the state minister added.
During his visit, Boseraju also submitted a memorandum to Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti V Somanna. He requested faster clearances so that irrigation work across the state can move ahead quickly.
In a parallel development, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and Boseraju held talks with Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu on key aviation infrastructure projects.
The discussions focused on the proposed airport at Raichur. The project is expected to boost economic activity in the Kalyana Karnataka region. They also discussed reviving flight services to Kalaburagi under the UDAN scheme, the minister said.
The Union minister also assured a positive response. He said talks would be held with airlines to restart services to Kalaburagi, Boseraju added.
