More than 40 people trapped in the flood of Sone River near Lohargada and Merauni village of Hariharpur in Garhwa district of Jharkhand were rescued by the teams of the State Disaster Relief Force on Monday.

The SDRF teams evacuated all the people from a dune area, where they had gone for cattle grazing and farming activities.

On Sunday night, there was a sudden rise in the water level of Sone River.

Due to this, one and a half dozen villagers from Garhwa district and about two dozen villagers from Rohtas district of Bihar were trapped in the flood.

Taking swift action after receiving the information, Garhwa district administration started the rescue operation. Teams of SDRF, Jharkhand, and Rohtas district administration conducted a rescue operation and evacuated the villagers trapped on the dune area of Sone River.

The SDRF teams also rescued cattle that were trapped in the flood.

In view of the flood situation, a high alert has been issued in the areas of Sone River. People have also been prohibited from going to the banks of Sone River for the time being. In view of the rising water level, an alert has been issued especially in the areas of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh.

The Garhwa and Palamu district administrations in Jharkhand have appealed to the people in the coastal areas of Sone to remain alert and have also issued a helpline number.

The water level of the Sone River is rising after continuous rains.

There is also information about water being released from the Rihand Dam of Uttar Pradesh built on the Sone River, which may further lead to a rise in water levels.
