Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, his Haryana counterpart Nayab Singh Saini and several other leaders from the two neighbouring states on Monday paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
In a post on X written in Punjabi, Mann said the nation will always remember the supreme sacrifice of the brave individuals who fell victim to British oppression. He added that the bloodshed by the martyrs would continue to inspire future generations with a spirit of patriotism and sacrifice, urging people to come together to build the Punjab envisioned by them.
Saini, in his message, described the massacre as one of the darkest chapters of India’s freedom struggle, one that shook the conscience of the entire nation. Writing in Hindi on X, he said the courage and selflessness shown by the unarmed martyrs in their fight for freedom would remain an everlasting source of inspiration.
Paying homage, Congress leader and former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the patriotism, bravery, dedication and ultimate sacrifice of the martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh would forever be remembered.
Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar also offered his respects, stating that the story of their unwavering courage and dignity in the face of colonial brutality would continue to inspire generations across the country.
On April 13, 1919, hundreds of peaceful protesters gathered at Jallianwala Bagh to oppose the repressive Rowlatt Act were fired upon without warning by British troops, resulting in one of the most tragic and defining moments of India’s struggle for independence.
