Jammu and Kashmir National Conference chief Dr Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday urged students currently enrolled in Iranian universities to return home with immediate effect. He cited an official advisory, issued by the Government of India, urging all Indians working or studying in Iran to return home.

He also extended his heartiest congratulations to the J&K cricket team for qualifying for the Ranji Trophy final against Karnataka. During his brief media interaction here, the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir urged students to return without delay.

Dr Farooq said, “I want every one of the J&K students to return home as soon as possible because you might not be able to return later on.” "An advisory has been issued, so everyone should return,” he added. Though the NC supremo did not provide any further details about the advisory that has been issued.

On the J&K team’s historic Ranji Trophy final, he congratulated the team, the coaching staff and other support staff for winning the semi-final and wished that they would bring home the title after 67 years of waiting.

"I want to congratulate the J&K cricket team for qualifying for the Ranji Trophy final and I wish that they win the final,” he said. He also slammed sections of the media for indulging in selective reporting and demanded an immediate end to the spreading of misinformation about the government.  “Media is dependent on falsehood and is running false narratives,” he said.

The same matter was flagged by the NC spokesperson and MLA Tanvir Sadiq, who accused smaller and lesser-known newspapers in J&K of receiving more funds than mainstream media outlets.
