The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has activated dedicated helpline numbers to assist residents of the Union Territory returning from Iran, following an advisory issued by the Embassy of India in Tehran on February 23, 2026.
According to a circular issued by the J&K Resident Commission, New Delhi, the helplines have been made operational to provide necessary support and coordination for returnees. The circular states that the helpline services will remain functional round-the-clock to facilitate assistance.
The notified helpline numbers include “Hello J&K” at 7303620090 and the Control Room numbers 011-24611108 and 011-24611210.The circular, dated February 25, 2026, has been issued for wider dissemination among concerned authorities, including the Ministry of External Affairs, J&K Police, and the J&K Bureau of Information, for ensuring timely support to affected residents. These helplines will provide necessary support and coordination to those in need.
Pertinently, citing a “rapidly evolving” security situation, the Indian Embassy in Tehran has repeated its January advisory and asked all Indian nationals—including students, pilgrims and business travellers—to depart Iran using any available commercial flights. Emergency helplines and an online registration form have been circulated to assist departures.
The alert follows heightened Tehran-Washington tensions and fresh anti-government protests across several Iranian cities. Although commercial air services are still running, travel insurers report premium surcharges of up to 40 per cent on routes transiting Iranian airspace.
Indian medical students form the largest single foreign cohort in Iran; many face exam schedules in early March and have appealed for remote assessment options. Universities, however, have yet to announce concessions, leaving students torn between safety directives and academic obligations.
For multinational employers the advisory triggers duty-of-care protocols. Companies with staff on hydrocarbon or infrastructure projects in Iran are activating evacuation plans, reassessing force-majeure clauses and checking passport/visa validity for dependents.Fresh anti-Government protests have erupted in Iran as students held protests which led to clashes at several Iranian universities.
