Since 2012, IVI has vision screened over 1.95 million individuals across 25 states in India, providing free spectacles to those who need them and referrals for further medical care where required.

India Vision Institute (IVI) today marked a major milestone, reaching one million schoolchildren through its school vision screenings. At a vision screening camp organised at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Pulla Avenue, Greater Chennai Corporation Mayor Priya Rajan presented corrective spectacles to the one-millionth beneficiary, Shivani T, a Class 8 student.

Presiding over the program, Ms Rajan expressed her appreciation for IVI’s commitment and its achievement in reaching one million schoolchildren through vision screenings.

IVI CEO Vinod Daniel said, “A basic eye test and a simple pair of spectacles can change a child’s day and their future. Crossing the one-million mark is an important step for us. We will continue working with schools, local bodies and partners so no child is left behind because they cannot see the board or read a book clearly. We are delighted that over half of the schoolchildren we have screened are girls, reflecting our strong focus on girls’ education and eye health.”

“Clear sight lifts learning outcomes and opens doors to opportunity. We value our partnership with government school authorities and our many supporters across India, as we expand accessible services for children and communities across India.”

Among those present at the vision screening were Viswanathan, Chairman, Standing Committee (Education), Dr G Sivakumar District Programme Manager, District Blindness Control Society, Koushik HR IAS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, KP Jain, Chairman Zone 8, and J Vasanthi, Education Officer.
