In response to detected suspicious activity along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, the army initiated a massive cordon and search operation, opening fire in the Sabra Gali area of Mendhar. 

 

The incident occurred during the early hours of Saturday, prompting swift action from stationed troops.

 

Officials reported that the firing incident took place in a forward village in the snow-covered Mendhar, triggering a large-scale search operation.

 

With the recent snowfall in the rugged terrain, troops along the LoC are on high alert to thwart potential infiltration attempts by terrorists from across the border.

 

Lt General Navin Sachdeva, GoC of Jammu-based White Knight Corps, visited forward locations in the Poonch sector on Friday, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and resilience in the face of challenges.

 

The tough terrain and harsh weather conditions make the region susceptible to infiltration attempts by terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir.

 

A comprehensive search operation is underway to secure the area thoroughly. The army's proactive stance reaffirms its commitment to maintaining peace and security along the LoC, despite the challenging terrain and weather conditions.

 

In 2023, the army successfully eliminated 40 terrorists along the border, marking a significant increase from the 18 terrorists killed in 2022.

 

This alarming surge in terrorist infiltration indicated a double fold increase and underscores the persistent threat, necessitating continuous vigilance and robust counter-terrorism efforts in the Union Territory and adjacent regions.
