Five personnel were killed after an Indian Air Force AN-32 transport aircraft met with an accident while landing at the airbase in Assam’s Jorhat on Saturday, IAF officials reportedly said. The co-pilot survived the crash and is currently undergoing treatment. Firefighting forces have been mobilised immediately by the concerned agencies to tackle the situation, as well as to assess casualties, if any.
During its first announcement regarding this incident, the Indian Air Force said that the plane was involved in an accident, and information would be given as soon as more information came forth. While it is not clear what happened leading to this accident, the defenders have clarified that this event occurred in the Rowriah region and efforts for containing the fire were initiated immediately, following the outbreak of the fire.
So far, no immediate information about the condition of the crew members and the damages caused to the aircraft has been provided. However, the reason behind the crash has not yet been provided either, and it is anticipated that the Indian Air Force will release more information once they conduct their preliminary investigation of the site.
