The park was officially inaugurated by Cameron Noble, the Deputy Consul General of the Australian Consulate-General in Chennai, alongside Tenkasi District Collector Kamal Kishore and several other high-profile dignitaries, including former Central Bureau of Investigation Director DR Karthikeyan and former Chief Election Commissioner TS Krishnamurthy.

A sprawling five-acre stretch of land has been transformed into one of India’s largest sensory parks in in Tamil Nadu’s Tenkasi district. Launched by Amar Seva Sangam, the "Amar Abdul Kalam Rehab Orchard" is a far cry from a traditional rehab center; it is a lush, multi-functional environment designed to help people with disabilities find dignity and independence through nature.

Supported by an ₹8 lakh grant under the Australian Government’s Direct Aid Program (DAP), the project reflects an increasing international emphasis on inclusive development.

What is special about this park is the combination of therapy and nature. These aren't just for recreation; they are designed to improve motor coordination and sensory processing for children and adults with developmental delays.

Beyond physical therapy, the orchard serves as a vocational training ground. The participants are involved in activities such as planting, composting, and solar drying, which helps form a bridge towards future employability.

The collaboration also fits the Australian government's International Disability Equity and Rights Strategy. As Cameron Noble said during the ceremony, the aim is to build societies where people with disabilities can achieve their full potential. With the support of local panchayat leaders and civil society representatives who attended the launch, the park stands as a model for how community-based, nature-driven support systems can change lives.

Since its inception in 1981, Amar Seva Sangam has been leading the way in disability management in India. This sensory park is perhaps the most ambitious initiative they have undertaken so far towards a world where rehabilitation is not only about treatment, but also about instilling self-reliance and inclusiveness in the most natural environment.
