<div>A fourth-year female student at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Palakkad was injured after being assaulted by an unidentified assailant inside the campus on Monday night, police said.</div>

<div>According to police officials, the incident occurred around 8:30 PM at the institute&rsquo;s campus in Kanjikode while the student was walking from her hostel room to the dining hall.</div>

<div>Police said the attacker struck the student on the head from behind using a sharp object and fled the scene immediately. The student sustained injuries to her head and back and was rushed to a private hospital in Coimbatore for treatment. Her condition is reported to be stable.</div>

<div>Following the incident, nearly 200 students staged a protest at the campus gates late Monday night, expressing concern over security lapses and demanding the immediate arrest of the attacker. Protesters also called for stronger safety measures on campus.</div>

<div>Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the campus to identify and trace the assailant.</div>
