HP’s Dehra gets prioritised in development

‘Dehra Utsav’ is to be made an annual affair to promote local culture and attract tourists.

With an added focus on the Dehra Assembly segment, represented by his wife, Kamlesh Thakur, who won the by-poll last month, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu visited the constituency today to inspect land sites for various offices and development projects. 

 

He instructed the district administration to speed up the identification of suitable land for the newly planned Superintendent of Police office and other offices in Dehra.

 

The state-level Independence Day function was also celebrated in Dehra on Thursday.

 

The CM inspected the ongoing construction of the fire station, SDM office, hospital, sericulture office and Government Senior Secondary Schools for boys and girls at Dehra. He also interacted with students of the school and directed the teachers to keep them informed about current events or happenings in the state and the country regularly vis-à-vis raising concern over lack of General Knowledge.

 

He said the quality of education in the State needs to be improved and the present government was taking several steps to upgrade the educational standards ensuring youth are well-prepared to face future challenges, he said. He also announced that a new building for Dehra College would be constructed with Rs 7 Crore allocated for completing the ongoing building project in the area.

 

Sukhu emphasized exploring new opportunities to boost tourism in Dehra and nearby constituencies. He announced that 'Dehra Utsav' would be celebrated by the end of this year to promote local culture and attract tourists. He also directed the authorities to lay underground electricity cables in Dehra and Jawalamukhi, assuring that adequate funds would be provided for this project.

 

He instructed the HP State Electricity Board Ltd. to conduct a survey addressing electricity issues in Dehra, considering the growing infrastructure needs for upcoming projects like the Central University Campus and an International-level zoo. He assured that the state government would ensure the timely completion of these projects without financial constraints.

 

The CM directed the improvement of road connectivity and water supply in the Dehra area. He asked officers to prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for drinking water schemes in Muhal, Khabli, Shivnath, Dhawala, Rainta, Kariyada, and nearby villages. Similar reports should be prepared for Bilaspur, Guler, Nandpur, and Ludret areas of the Dehra constituency. He ordered the construction of additional water tanks to tackle water scarcity and announced the installation of UV filter systems in the drinking water schemes.

 

The Chief Minister said that new bus stands would be constructed at Khundiyan in Jawalamukhi and Dadasiba in the Jaswan Pragpur area to improve commuter facilities. An integrated sports stadium would also be constructed for Dehra to encourage youth participation in sports thereby keeping them away from drug abuse, he added.

 

MLAs Kamlesh Thakur and Sanjay Rattan, Congress leader Surender Mankotia, Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa, SP Shalini Agnihotri and other senior officials also attended the meeting.
