A man has been booked for allegedly cheating a woman, taking money from her, and sexually abusing her after pretending to be an excise inspector and promising marriage.
The Dharamsala police have filed an FIR under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Sachin Kumar, son of Prem Chand, from Mansurpur Chamori in Yamunanagar district, Haryana. The case has been registered at the Dharamsala police station.
Section 69 of the BNS deals with sexual intercourse obtained through deceitful means, like a false promise of marriage. It covers such acts even if they do not meet the legal definition of rape.
The victim said Sachin, who originally hails from Haryana, first contacted her on Instagram and WhatsApp in February, posing as an excise inspector. He gained her trust by promising marriage. Over six months, he took about Rs 86,000 in cash and gifts worth Rs 25,000 from her.
She further stated that on October 24, he met her at the Pine View Hotel in Dharamsala, where he sexually abused her under the false promise of marriage.
Later, she learned that Sachin was already married and had a child. After this, he blocked her on all communication platforms.
The victim has given the police bank transaction records from two accounts, along with photos, chats, and call logs as evidence in the case.
Investigation officer ASI Vijay Singh told the media that the police have not yet arrested the accused.
