Haryana ADGP Y Puran Kumar's wife Amneet P Kumar reaches GMSH-16 to see her husband’s body in mortuary on Wednesday.

The wife of Haryana ADGP Y Puran Kumar, who allegedly shot himself at his Chandigarh home, reached the city on Wednesday from Japan, where she was part of an official delegation.

The officer’s wife, Amneet P Kumar, is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer and currently serves as commissioner and secretary of the Haryana government’s Department of Foreign Cooperation. She was in Japan as part of a delegation headed by Chief Minister Nayab Saini.
Sources said Amneet reached Chandigarh in the afternoon.

Y Puran Kumar, a 2001-batch IPS officer, was 52 years old. He was found dead at his residence in Chandigarh on Tuesday.

Some senior Haryana bureaucrats met Amneet after her arrival and expressed their condolences.

The Chandigarh Police had said on Tuesday that the post-mortem would be conducted once Amneet Kumar was back.

Puran Kumar was known for raising issues related to officers’ rights and seniority. He was recently posted as inspector general of the Police Training Centre (PTC) in Rohtak’s Sunaria.

His body, with a gunshot wound, was discovered in a basement room of his house.

Police said a team from the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory (CFSL) collected physical and electronic evidence, including the weapon that he allegedly used to shoot himself.

Investigators also recovered a “will” and a “final note” from the spot. Sources said the note runs into nine pages.

Police rushed to his house in Chandigarh’s upscale Sector 11 after they received information about the incident around 1:30 pm on Tuesday.
Before his posting to Sunaria, Puran Kumar had served as inspector general of Rohtak Range.

The Chandigarh Police issued a statement on Tuesday evening confirming the alleged suicide.

“An information of reported suicide was received by Police Station 11, Chandigarh at around 1:30 pm from Sector 11, Chandigarh. On receiving the said information, the police staff and senior officers of Chandigarh Police reached the spot. The deceased has been identified as Y Puran Kumar, IPS 2001 Batch, Haryana Cadre. The body was found in a room at the basement of the house with a gunshot wound,” the statement said.

The senior IPS officer had served in various Haryana districts, including Ambala, Rohtak and Kurukshetra. He was an engineering graduate and was scheduled to retire in May 2033.
