A fundraising initiative has been started by the Haryana Police to support the family of ASI Sandeep Lather, who allegedly committed suicide, within a week after IPS officer Y Puran Kumar died. Both the Haryana police officers left ‘final notes’ before their deaths.
Haryana’s Director General of Police (DGP), O P Singh, in a letter on October 21, requested voluntary financial contributions from police personnel across the state. The DGP’s letter noted that Lather is survived by his mother, wife, two daughters, and a son, two of whom are minors still pursuing their education, and suggested that the police force could provide the family with financial aid.
A similar kind of letter was also issued by the Rohtak Superintendent of Police (SP) Surinder Singh Bhoria. In the letter, SP requested all police station officers-in-charge to circulate the correspondence and drum up support to raise aid. The circular suggests that IPS officers contribute Rs 3,000, DSPs Rs 2,500, Sub-Inspectors Rs 1,800, and ASIs Rs 1,500, among others.
It further states that the police personnel who have any concerns or are unable to contribute can convey their reservations to the SP, the media reports add.
Lather, in his last video note, levelled corruption allegations against the late IG Puran, hence establishing a strong link between the two deaths.
