In shocking incident took place in Hisar, Haryana, late Thursday night when Sub-Inspector Ramesh was reportedly beaten to death with bricks and sticks after he tried to stop a group of men from creating a disturbance.
The police have booked 10 people in connection with the killing, and arrested five. The attackers lived in the same vicinity. The incident happened around 11:30 pm. The attackers left their car and two bikes at the scene before running away. Senior police officers reached the spot soon after.
Police said action would be taken based on the family’s statement, and a search for the suspects is already underway. The body was sent to the civil hospital for a post-mortem.
Sub-Inspector Ramesh, around 57 years old, was just three months away from retirement, due in January. He had been posted at the ADGP office for the past 10 years and lived with his family in Gali Number 3 of Dhani Shyamlal. Several of his relatives also serve in the police department.
The trouble started around 10:30 pm when a group of young men were making noise and using abusive language. Ramesh heard them and went outside to ask them to stop. They left at that time but returned about an hour later with more people in a car and on bikes.
They again began shouting and using foul language outside Ramesh’s house. When he stepped out to intervene, they attacked him with sticks and bricks, injuring him badly. His family rushed out after hearing the noise but could not catch the attackers as they fled.
The victim is survived by two daughters and a son.
