Congress general secretary and in-charge of Haryana affairs, BK Hariprasad, on Tuesday said a disciplinary committee will soon be set up in the state unit to maintain discipline and accountability in the organisation. He said the committee would handle internal party matters on an official platform.
Newly appointed Haryana Congress chief Rao Narender Singh thanked the party high command for the new responsibility. He said he had directed the appointment of booth agents to check voter lists and speed up the "Vote Chor-Gaddi Chhod" campaign. He gave these instructions during a meeting with district presidents and assembly candidates.
Singh accused the NDA alliance in Bihar of tampering with voter lists but said he was confident that a Congress coalition will form the government there.
He added that the party meeting also discussed civic elections, setting up district offices, increasing women’s participation, and expanding the organisation. Guidelines were issued on these matters.
Condemning the BJP government in Haryana, Singh alleged that crime and unemployment were rising in the state. He said Haryana was number one in development during the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress government from 2005 to 2014.
He highlighted the "Padak Lao, Pad Pao" policy introduced by the Congress government for athletes. This policy allowed athletes to be appointed to high-ranking posts like DSP. Singh said the Congress government had also succeeded in curbing crime, hooliganism, and the mafia from Haryana.
"The then chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda issued a clear warning to criminals: leave Haryana or give up crime. Many criminals fled the state at that time. But today, crime is at its peak, with incidents of murder, kidnapping, and shootings occurring daily," he said.
Leader of the Opposition and former chief minister Hooda said the public had given the Congress the role of opposition, and the party will fulfil this responsibility with full strength.
He listed the projects started during the Congress regime, including the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Panchkula, the National Institute of Design in Kurukshetra, Kalpana Chawla Medical College in Karnal, the Rajiv Gandhi Education City in Sonipat, AIIMS and the National Cancer Institute in Jhajjar, the IIM in Rohtak, Lala Lajpat Rai University in Hisar, the Indian Defence University in Gurugram, and the Central University in Mahendragarh.
