Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Tuesday announced the date for the Ghatsila Assembly by-election during a press conference at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The bypoll will be held on November 11, along with the Bihar Assembly elections.
With the announcement, the Model Code of Conduct has come into immediate effect in the Ghatsila Assembly constituency. Initially, there was some speculation over whether the code would apply to the entire district or just the constituency, but the Election Commission has clarified that it will be enforced only within the concerned Assembly segment.
Meanwhile, the district administration has begun preparations for the election. Work is underway at a brisk pace, including reviewing polling stations and finalising security arrangements.
The Election Commission has assured that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure that the polling process is conducted in a fair and transparent manner.
Notably, the Ghatsila constituency had fallen vacant this year after death of Jharkhand Education Minister Ramdas Soren following illness in Delhi. The constituency, which has remained a traditional fortress of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha was won only once by BJP in the year 2014.
After the demise of Minister Ramdas Soren the JMM is willing to give ticket to Soren’s son Somesh Soren for the bypoll and also make him a minister in the government.
On the other hand the Bharatiya Janata Party is again going to keep its hopes alive by giving ticket to former Chief Minister Champai Soren’s son Babulal Soren, who was defeated by Ramdas Soren in 2024 Assembly polls.
