Haryana Police’s Special Task Force (STF) has detained four shooters linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and recovered illegal weapons from their possession, officials said on Saturday.

The arrests were made by the STF’s Ambala unit after receiving a tip-off near GT Road in the Umri area. During the operation, police seized three country-made pistols and seven live cartridges.

According to police officials, the accused were planning to open fire at a toll plaza on the Rewari–Narnaul highway as part of an extortion attempt. Police said the group was also allegedly involved in planning a criminal activity in Ranchi, Jharkhand.

Some of the arrested accused have a criminal history and had earlier been lodged in jail, the police said. After being released on bail, they allegedly rejoined organised crime activities, officials added.

A case has been registered at the Sadar police station in Thanesar, Kurukshetra. The accused have been taken on police remand for further investigation and questioning.
